Down’s syndrome screening nuchal scan (NT) 1st trimester screening (11 - 13+6 weeks)
Nuchal Scan (NT) 1st Trimester Screening (11 - 13+6 weeks)
The nuchal scan is the original basis for screening for Down’s Syndrome and other
chromosomal abnormalities. The Nuchal Translucency (NT) is fluid under the skin at the
back of baby’s neck which is measured as a means to identify potentially high-risk
pregnancies.
In order to get the optimal risk assessment, NT screening used in isolation to screen for
chromosomal risk is best performed in the hands of experts who specialise in screening
for chromosomal abnormalities.
At this is my: baby, we not only measure the NT but also check your baby’s anatomy as it is
just as important to know your baby is structurally normal too.
Please Note: The NT measurement risk calculation in isolation of an NIPT Blood sample is these days used in exceptional circumstances only when patients fall outside the remit for
having a NIPT screening.
