Shockwave treatment
Non invasive treatment for tendon pain
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that can be used to treat chronic tendon pain. It uses a special device to deliver high energy sound waves through the skin to the affected tissue. The body responds to the shockwaves by increasing the blood circulation and metabolism around the treatment site to stimulate tissue healing. Shockwaves also desensitises nerve endings which may provide an immediate reduction in pain.
At This Is My Sports Medicine, shockwave therapy is offered to patients who have failed to respond to other treatments such as physiotherapy, pain medication and activity modification, and are still experiencing pain and impaired function. Common conditions that shockwave therapy can be used to treat includes tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, Achilles and patella tendinopathy, greater trochanteric pain / gluteal tendinopathy and calcific rotator cuff tendinopathy in the shoulder.
